This will be today’s last post. It’s not a good way of blogging, doing three posts at once, and then nothing for a month or something. But that’s how it is. When I’m done with this post I have to do school work again :)

When I opened my mail box today, I found FIVE postcards! From postcrossing of course :D It was so fun, getting all five at once. I want to send more now, so I can get even more mail :) They were all so nice :D Even one from Australia. That traveled over 15000 km!

So I give you pictures of those too :)

The title sums it all up! I got some vanilla beans off eBay (well, “some” is actually A LOT! about 40 maybe?) and thought I should try to use one for something right away. Half of it will be vanilla extract, the rest I just will have to find some use for. They can be stored for a while as long as I keep them wrapped double in cling film, so it’s not that much of a hurry :)

Anyway, I found out I could make some cupcakes/muffins. Since I had a visitor and all. So I made a small batch, added chocolate chips (a bit too many, and as it turns out Thomas isn’t much a fan of dark chocolate) and vanilla seeds & cooked them up. I think they tasted good the first day, but they had to have some glace + a glass of milk. I ended up eating almost all of them myself, so luckily I just made 8 or something :)

And the fun part is that they had a super funny shape! :D They all had little nipples! I think the shape was super cute. So here are pictures:

PS: I tagged this blog post with “nipples” and did the same with the flickr photos. I wonder how many hits they will get, haha.

Last weekend, Thomas came to visit again. We were so lucky with the weather, considering it’s been cold and wet since he left. It even snowed yesterday! But when he was here, there was some sunny days. On Friday, we decided to go down to the city (because it was probably less people there than on Saturday) and then to go to Sognsvann. When we got to the bus stop, we changed our mind, and decided to go to Sognsvann first instead. The weather was so nice, and we just wanted to get there. I had never been there either, so it was fun to check it out. We walked along “Akerselva” to Nydalen, and took the tube from there. Then to Sognsvann.

And then suddenly, we was out of the city with trees everywhere and a big lake! I was quite amazed, and it’s right by the student housing at Kringsjå. It’s a bit outside of the city, but the tube goes right to the city and goes every 15 min, so it’s not that bad. (I have to say this is part of my secret plan of getting Thomas to love Oslo :P we’ll se how that goes)

We stayed there for a little while, sat down on some rocks by the water and watched the seagulls that swam around. I had brought food. But as soon as the seagulls saw I had some bread in my hand, they started to circle around us! Thomas pointed it out first (“Haha, look! It saw that you had food!”) and I put down the bread immediately, because I got scared! I visualized the seagulls getting closer and closer and then suddenly attack :) Of course they didn’t. Then there was some people a bit further away that started to throw food to them, so they flew away. That’s when I dared to eat a bit myself :)

It was really cold, and clouds had formed, so we didn’t stay very long. Took the tube down to the city, and when we god out of the tube station, it poured down! The weather forecast said it was going to be sunny all day! A good thing is that we decided to go to Sognsvann first, or else it would have been wet :)

Here are Sognsvann pictures:

And check out this vimeo-video of the birds!

We didn’t do much on Saturday, the weather still wasn’t very good. Thomas went outside to do some qigong though, but I stayed inside.

Sunday was another beautiful day. This time it really WAS sunny! So we took a long walk along Akerselva, from Bjølsen, through Nydalen and just follwed the river until we found a bridge. That was almost at Kjelsås. Then we crossed the river and walked back on ashphalt. It was great, a good walk (about 6km I found out) and it’s nice to see that even though I live in Norway’s biggest city, there are still nature around! And a lot of ducks in the river! A couple of pictures from that too:

That’s enough of that :) It was fun to explore places in Oslo that I hadn’t been before :)

I got a tumblr.com-blog. Or it’s like micro blogging or something :) real nice. Easier to update, doesn’t have to be long posts :)

Test for å se hva tumblr gjør med den :)

And since I’m sitting here and is supposed to do a programming assignment (java, it’s hard), I will write another post to distract me! :P

I’m making christmas cards this year. Cross stitched ones. I’ve only finished one yet, but I’m so busy for school and everything so we’ll see how it goes. Maybe I’ll make the embroideries into those embellishments you hang on the christmas tree or something instead, because I don’t think it looked as good as a card that I’ve seen in other pictures. It’s probably because the cards I’ve gotten don’t fit very well with the size of what I’ve stitched. Well, here’s a picture of the one I did so far though :)

And I’m getting a bit nervous if I’m gonna finish that christmas gift I’m making or not. It really takes a lot of time, and I need to do a lot of schoolwork the next weeks. I guess I’ll do some in the weekends. I’ll have to :)

Here’s the picture. I have another kind of card too, with a square cutout. But it’s too small. It’s one more type available, with an oval. I think those will fit better, so I’ll probably go buy one of those too. I don’t know what color is best though. They’re only available in red, white and cream. I’m thinking red is the right color for christmas, but it’s so bright. And cream would maybe clash with the white aida cloth. White would maybe be too neutral too. So I’ll probably go for another red one..

christmas card idea..

I bought this book called “potato food” so I could learn how to use potatoes in other forms than just the normal boring ones. I found that most of the recipies was pretty unhealthy though, and since I’m trying to lose weigh I got a bit disappointed. What I did find though, was this “potato and leek soup” which looked good. I’m not normally a fan of vegetable soups, but this was going to be pureed after cooking so I thought it looked fun!

The recipie was for 4 people so I tried to make only one portion. I used:
* 80g potatoes
* 40g onion
* 40g leek
* 10g margarine
* one vegetable stock cube (I should have used a half, but I like it spicy)
* 5dl water (most of this cooked away because I don’t have a lid for the pot)

First you cut the potatoes up in small pieces, about 2cm. And cut the onion and leek too. Sautee them in the margarine (or butter) for 2-3 min until they’re a bit soft. It should be done on low heat, so they don’t get any color. Then add the stock and bring to a boil. Boil for about 15 min or until the potatoes are done. Then use a hand mixer or something (I used my blender) to mix it. Taste with salt and pepper (I put a lot of pepper and then som chili too) Then heat up again and serve.

My soup got really reduced. And maybe I blended it too much, because the picture in the book shows a more watery soup with thicker puree. Mine got very thick and was a bit like baby food. BUT it was delicious still :) Probably not something I would serve guests though, haha. I will say this is a new recipie tried out, so I can add it to my “101 things in 1001 days-list” though.

I guess you can see a picture: (the image in the book was more green, I guess they used more leek)
And also for fun, the dinner from the day before; whole grain spaghetti + sauce and a bit cheese. + Chinese cabbage. I LOVE Chinese cabbage :D dinner 15.10.08

dinner 14.10.08

I really had no idea how busy I would be once I started uni. The math is worst and takes most time. The chemistry isn’t that hard, and it shouldn’t be either. Since that’s the thing I’m studying :)

Anyway, I just got home from a 5 day break at home, where I basically just stayed with my boyfriend the whole time.  (It’s sick how much you can miss a person after being away from them a couple of weeks) And I didn’t do any of the java assignment I was supposed to start while at home. So I’ll be starting tomorrow, and I’ll be studying hard and long so I’m up to date with the schoolwork for when the boyfriend comes to visit in two weeks :)

I’ve started some cross stitch christmas cards, and a little secret christmas gift that’s 1/3 finished. I’m starting to stress out with not being finished by christmas, but it’ll be fine. I’ll post the christmas cards here later.

I’m gonna make this homemade vanilla extract and maybe make some for christmas gifts too? Since we don’t get the real vanilla extract in Norway, it would maybe be a nice gift :) It means I have to start ASAP though, since it says “store for 2 months” :) I would have to get some small cute jars though, but that will just be fun.

I wish I had time for a lot of crafty things, that’s so much more fun than this studying stuff. But I guess it’s neccesairy :)

AND I have finally found tofu. So I’ll be testing out a new recipie this weekend, that has tofu in it. Still hasn’t found the recipie I’ll be testing though :) But I had this plan of doing one new recipie a month, so I better get started!

This was lots of small paragraphs, but it’s late at night, and I’ve been a crappy blogger. But that’s how it is.

This is a test to see how it is to blog directly from my mobile phone.. It seems like i can’t use pictures..:-(
